CS2 Update: New Missions and XP System Explained

On May 7th, Valve released an update titled “Mission Possible” for CS2, featuring map pool changes, a novel weekly missions system, and some bug fixes. Let’s go through all the changes.

Weekly Missions

Each week, players will now be given a mission that, when completed, will reward them with XP. These missions will usually come in the form of playing matches, winning rounds, and getting kills. When completed, the player will not get another mission until the following week.

There have been more mission criteria found in the game files that combine multiple conditions, such as winning X rounds on a specific map, or getting kills with a specific weapon.

With this latest update, 2 new maps have been added, as well as a returning favorite. Jura, Grail and Agency are now available to play, and Basalt, Edin, Palais, and Whistle have been removed. It’s currently unknown whether these maps will be graduated to the Active Duty map pool. The current casual map pools have been adjusted as follows:

  • Defusal Group Alpha: Mirage, Inferno, Vertigo, Dust2
  • Defusal Group Delta: Train, Anubis, Ancient, Nuke, Overpass
  • Community Map Group: Jura, Grail, Agency
  • Hostage Group: Italy, Office

Wingman also got two new additions: Dogtown and Brewery.

Miscellaneous Changes

In addition to map pool changes and weekly missions, Valve have fixed a couple bugs, including one where players binding actions to the “/” key wouldn’t have their binds persist between game restarts. They also added an option to modify the main menu ambient sound volume.
