Valve shipped a large CS2 update on September 22, 2026. The full notes cover crosshairs, clan tags, and a batch of map fixes, but there are three headline changes: Premier has a new map selection process, there’s a new 3v3 queued mode called Rush, and you can now reload and unscope without making a sound.
Before this update, Premier used a veto where teams banned maps until one was left. That let you remove the maps you were weakest on, which is a big part of why so many lobbies ended up on the same few maps.
Now there are no bans. The new process:
Each team gets two picks, so both sides put an equal share of maps into the draw. Valve’s reasoning is that players who put time into building strategies on a map should get a chance to benefit from that work, so instead of banning down to a single map, each team now picks two.

Rush is a new queued 3v3 mode. Instead of one map with two bombsites, a match is a run through a series of battle arenas, with the goal of pushing all the way to the opponent’s castle. The arenas are randomly selected for every match, so no two games play out the same way.
You win a round by controlling the tower, either after eliminating the enemy team or when time runs out. Valve’s announcement also says you’ll be working with a limited budget and limited time each round, and there’s a Rush leaderboard for comparing wins with your friends.

Press and hold your reload key, and you reload without making a sound. The trade-off is time: silent reloads take quite a bit longer than a normal one. Exact timings per weapon
This builds on a bigger change from earlier in the year. Since March, reloading a magazine-fed weapon discards everything left in the magazine and takes a fresh, full mag from your reserves. So reloading has already been a real decision for six months. Now there’s a second decision on top of it: fast and loud, or slow and quiet. This should, in theory, allow for more tactical play.
Unscoping a sniper rifle no longer makes a sound. The patch notes only mention unscoping, so scoping in should still be audible. If you AWP, you can now come off the scope to reposition, reset, or fake leaving an angle without announcing it, and if you’re playing against it, you can no longer hear if an AWPer unscopes near you.

A few other changes worth knowing about:
Crosshairs are now resolution independent. There’s a new Crosshair/Scopes tab in Settings, new crosshair styles, and a new default crosshair called Dynamic Quad. If your crosshair looks different today, check your settings, especially if you play on a low or stretched resolution.
How does Premier map selection work in CS2 now?
Team 1 picks one map, Team 2 picks two maps, and Team 1 picks one final map. The game then randomly selects one of those four maps and the match begins.
Can you still ban maps in Premier?
No. The new process has no ban step. Each team picks two maps, and one of the four is chosen at random.
What is Rush in CS2?
Rush is a 3v3 queued mode where teams fight through a series of randomly selected battle arenas to reach the opponent’s castle. You win a round by controlling the tower after eliminating the enemy team or when time expires.
Is CS2’s Rush mode the same as Refrag’s Rush?
No. Refrag’s Rush is a solo training mode where five aggressive bots charge at you. Valve’s Rush is a separate 3v3 queued mode inside CS2.
How do you reload silently in CS2?
Press and hold your reload key. The reload is silent but takes longer than a normal reload. A normal press still gives you the standard, audible reload.
Is unscoping silent in CS2?
Yes. As of the September 22, 2026 update, unscoping a sniper rifle no longer makes a sound.
Why does my crosshair look different after the update?
Crosshairs are now resolution independent, and the default crosshair changed to a new style called Dynamic Quad. Check the new Crosshair/Scopes tab in Settings to adjust it.
