The removal of a classic map, the return of viewmodel settings, and tweaks to some kill reward amounts are the headlining features of this sizable Counter-Strike 2 update. In this blog post, we’ll be covering everything you need to know about Counter-Strike’s April 25th update!
Goodbye Overpass
It is with a heavy heart we bid farewell to Overpass. This change came as a shock to most in the community, as it had just been completely remade visually for the launch of the game. Refrag’s own EliGE made it known he was not a fan of the change, tweeting “Worst map pool ever IMO.” Nevertheless, Valve deemed it was time to replace the map, which had been a mainstay in the Active Duty map pool since 2014.
A truly iconic map is being brought back into action in its place: Dust2. The classic map has stayed relatively unchanged from when we last saw it in Active Duty in Global Offensive back in mid-2022. It has been visually redone to accommodate the Source 2 engine and will likely see competition in May.
Inferno Facelift
That’s not the end of the map related changes. Inferno was given some TLC, with the biggest changes coming in the form of the removal of the overhanging buildings at the top of Middle and the bottom of Banana. This will allow for some more creative utility to be thrown, giving Ts more options to take both areas. Stay tuned to the Refrag Nades account on X for the latest lineups enabled by these new changes!
Lefties rejoice!
Left-handed viewmodel settings have finally been added to the game. They have created a bind to switch between left and right handedness, which is set to H
by default. Unfortunately, it’s not instant like it was in Global Offensive. When pressing the bind, your player will quick-switch their weapon, resulting in you being unable to shoot during the animation. In addition to this, Valve have networked all viewmodel settings, making them visible to players in spectator. Along with some tweaks to the bob settings, players seem to be satisfied with the continual reintroduction of long time features to the game.
Kill Reward Tweaks and other miscellaneous changes
A few of lesser used weapons had their kill reward amounts tweaked. The Zeus had it’s kill reward increased from $0 to $100, the CZ75 went from $100 to $300, and the XM1014 Auto Shotgun had it’s reduced from $900 to a more appropriate $600.
More quality of life improvements came in the form of the return of the Overwatch system from Global Offensive, allowing what Valve is calling “trusted partners” to review the POVs of suspected cheaters and give a verdict. It’s yet to be seen what this means for the future of Valve Anti-Cheat, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
The HUD also got some love, with the biggest change being the ability to see and pick up dropped weapons from the buy menu. The buy menu will also show the minimum amount of money the player can expect to have in the following round. Valve also added a grenade lineup crosshair which can be configured per-grenade type, allowing for more creative grenade lineups without the use of console aliases. Finally, private matches are making a return, allowing you to play with parties of your friends on both official and custom workshop maps.
Refrag
This new update brings a lot of exciting new features, and Refrag is of course also making sure we’re staying up to date. We’re working right now to add new utility and nades onto NADR for the Inferno changes. And Dust 2 is already available on most of our training modes. So make sure you keep practicing, and load up some Dust 2 crossfire arenas now.
