How to improve your CS2 AWP skill with Refrag

A little while ago, we put out a short explainer on Counter-Strike 2 team roles, what they mean, and how to play them. No matter your skillset, abilities, and personality within the game, the structural makeup of a CS2 team will always have at least one role that suits you perfectly. One of the most important roles in any CS2 team is that of the wielder of the Big Green – the AWPer. Whether it’s locking down areas of map control, racking up explosive clutches, or simply hitting clippable flicks, Refrag can take your AWPing game to a whole new level.

Last time, we took a look at how to use Refrag as an Entry Fragger. Today, we’re going to take a look at how to use Refrag as an AWPer, so you can wield the coveted sniper with confidence.

AWP Hold

One of the most important jobs of any self-respecting AWPer is holding sites, angles, and positions. If you have the big gun, you need to be a rock for your team. You need to be able to take control of a position on the map and make sure that enemies cannot easily push you, retake map control, or otherwise scupper your team’s plans.

AWP Hold is a training mode which is specifically designed to put you in common positions wherein you will have to hold against enemies trying to peek or swing you. If you’re grinding AWP Hold regularly, dealing with aggressive swings whilst holding an angle will become second nature to you.

AWP Flick

Of course, holding down angles and being sensible and well-behaved is all well and good, but let’s be honest – if you’re AWping, sometimes you just have to style on your opponents. Luckily for you, we have a custom training mode designed for you to perfect your flicks, break your wrist, and tilt your enemies out of the server.

AWP Flick has 600 arenas of flick-intensive training. Some of these arenas will drop you into a common spot on the map – one that you’ll play often in real games. Others will drop you somewhere random on a common map, and rely purely on your ability to react and hit crazy, lightning-fast flicks. Grind this mode for a while, and you’ll notice yourself hitting some crazy shots in your pugs.

Quickscope

When you’re AWPing, just like with other roles in Counter-Strike 2, sometimes you’re going to get caught out. It doesn’t matter how great your flicks are if an enemy peeks you whilst you’re unscoped. One of the most useful tricks up the sniper’s sleeve is the ability to quickscope an opponent, adjusting on the fly to unexpected gunfights. Of course, Refrag have got you covered!

In the Quickscope mode, you will be positioned in commonly-played spots across all active duty maps. You will then have to quickscope enemies as they peek you from random angles. This is a really important string to an AWPer’s bow, so if you’re going to regularly wield the Big Green, make sure that you’re spending a good amount of time practising your quickscoping.

Clutch

So, you’ve worked on holding down common angles. You’ve broken a wrist or two with a crazy flick. You’ve even quickscoped your way to a round win a few times. But what happens when your teammates are all dead, and you’re on your lonesome with the AWP? Due to the playstyle of most AWPers, they will often find themselves in an important clutch or two over the course of the game. Learning how to stay calm under pressure and find late-round, against-the-odds impact with the sniper is a crucial weapon in the arsenal of a team’s AWPer.

In Clutch mode, you will be positioned in a common spot, and then peeked from multiple angles in quick succession, emulating a real in-game clutch scenario. Whilst this is not an AWP-specific mode, and can be used with any weapon, you can equip the AWP and practice those stressful, 1-vs-X clutches to your heart’s content.

Defender

For our final training mode for the AWPers of the world, we’re going to ramp up the intensity and pressure of your training routine. Equip the AWP and get ready to defend against site executes, flashes, mollies, and aggressive enemies. Defender mode is the best way to learn how to defend bombsites against coordinated, aggressive, utility-heavy attempted takes.

If you grind Defender mode with the AWP, you will learn how to react to utility, read opponent spacing, repeek on appropriate timings, and find significant defensive impact against a high-stress, fast-paced site execute. The rest of the modes mentioned in this article will improve your fundamental AWPing – Clutch mode will help you put everything you have practiced into action.
