5 Refrag Modes That Are Great For Co-op With Friends

If you’re not careful, grinding Counter-Strike can be a lonely affair. Sure, you can hop into a deathmatch server and warm up against real players, but if you’re committed to improving your mechanics in the long-run, CS2 training is often a solo venture.

What if we told you that you can play a whole load of Refrag’s training modes with your friends? You can improve together, perfecting your individual level as well as your interplay with each other. Let’s take a quick look at just some of the modes you can play with either one or more of your teammates.

Challenger

Have you ever been in a game, lost a bombsite, and had to watch your teammates die one by one in their attempts to regain entry and defuse the bomb? If you’re anything like us, chances are you have seen that an awful lot of times. If you’ve ever wondered whether there is an efficient way to train your retake protocols and moves with friends, you’re in luck!

Challenger Mode is the best place to practice retakes against difficult bots, with your teammates. This mode drops you into realistic retake situations, in which you can practice your timings, moves, protocols, and communication with your team. It can be played by 1-3 people, allowing you to practice anything from solo retakes all the way to coordinated three-man plays.

If this sounds like something you and your friends would love, make sure to check out some tips on improving your retakes before you jump in!

Xfire

Xfire is one of the best modes for practising pathing, clearing, crosshair placement, and reactions all in one place. This is a mode designed to drill you on your pathing and movement decisions, raw aim, reaction speed, and fight isolation. You will be fighting against swinging bots as well as static bots, so you are constantly moving between reaction fights and procedural, prefire clears.

Xfire can be played as a duo, making it perfect for focused two-player training. You can actively drill pathing, trading, and high-pressure communication, all while playing together. The skills you develop carry straight into real games, improving both mechanical performance and team coordination.

NADR

Using NADR with your friends is arguably the most effective way to use the mode. Whilst NADR is fantastic for solo use – you can learn and perfect nades to show off to your mates – it also has a wide breadth of uses for multiple players.

If you and your team get on a NADR server, you can practise your nade lineups together. You can build full site executes, default map control protocols, and utility timings. Also, you can use the Record feature to fine-tune pathing and timings for site pops, executes, and set rounds. NADR is an all-in-one tool for perfecting the elements of team interplay and utility, and can be a particularly deep and complex practise area for your team if used correctly.

For the basics of how to use NADR, check out this article. Also, don’t forget that we have a wiki, which is full of all the commands and functions that NADR has. You can find the NADR section of the wiki here.

Duels

This one is nice and simple. If you want to warm up your aim before some Faceit pugs or an official match, you and a friend can jump into Duels mode. Pick a map, and get thrown straight into consecutive 1v1 fights. It’s a great way to get comfortable taking fights at different points of the map, as well as a perfect way to warm your aim up and have a laugh. Plus, who doesn’t love dominating their duo-queue partner right before a game?

VPL

The last mode on this list (but by no means the last co-op mode on Refrag) is a fun one. VPL (Versus Playlist) is a training mode in which you must hold a bombsite against a full execute. Proper execute utility, timings, and trading will be used against you, and you must lock down your site with up to four other teammates.

VPL is a great way to practice bombsite defence, high-pressure teamplay, concise communications, and counterplay. It is fast-paced, high-pressure, and designed to be difficult. If you’re looking to stress-test your stack before some games, this is the perfect mode for you.

Ready to make CS2 training feel less like busywork and more like a real training activity? Jump into Refrag with your friends and run these modes together. Whether you’re dialing in sharp 2-man trading on Xfire, building full execute protocols in NADR, or stress-testing your comms in VPL, start a lobby, grab a teammate, and turn your next practice into real match-ready reps.
