Train is back! – What’s new in the November 13th CS2 Update

After many teasers over the last few weeks, Valve have brought back one of the most iconic maps in Counter-Strike with the most recent update to CS2. Along with giving it a complete facelift, Valve added new damage prediction features, “map guides,” and more. Let’s jump into what’s new!

Complete de_train remake

Valve have completely remade Train from the ground up. Rain effects have been added in the outside areas of the map and the textures are completely new, but they’ve still kept the distinct Soviet look that was introduced with the Global Offensive version. Along with the visual revamp, there have been significant layout changes in every key area of the map.

Popdog has been completely changed. The ladder that once was between Brown and White halls has been traded for a long hallway and a set of staircases.

The Ivy area was also completely revamped. The entire area has been closed in significantly, and instead of only having one way in and out of the Back-hall area, it’s been made into a square shape. Back six has been blocked off as well.

Outside has also been changed and shrunk significantly. Valve completely took out one of the train cars that was in the Global Offensive version, and instead opted to keep the “5” or “Red” train. It’s been slanted slightly, allowing for Ts to easily get out of T connector.

The B bombsite is familiar, although was shrunk significantly. Heaven and Cloud areas are now broken up by a control room area that’s not accessible. You’re still able to throw utility into the site from Brown halls.

Damage Prediction, “Map Guides,” Miscellaneous changes

Damage prediction

In an effort to make the gunplay feel more responsive, Valve implemented a feature that displays feedback to the client that may not sync with the server. In other words, you will be provided with certain visual and audio feedback such as “dinks” and ragdoll effects, but the actual events on the server may not be the same. This results in more rapid feedback, but it risks displaying incorrect visual and audio cues. Players can separately toggle predicted effects for body shots (off by default), head shots (off by default), and kill ragdolls (on by default).

Map Guides

Valve have begun adding common smokes to their native practice mode. These sample smokes show you where to stand, as well as where to aim in relation to the utility lineup reticle. So far, there are only a handful available and they’re only present on the Train remake.

Miscellaneous changes

The third-person animation for players blinded by flashbangs has been refined to reflect the actual level of visibility; now, the animation only shows players shielding their eyes when fully blinded. In the native practice mode, the grenade preview camera now displays the landing spot of a jump throw. For a complete breakdown of changes, see the official patch notes.

Refrag Training modes are available on Train!

Crossfire, Spray Transfer, Prefire 2.0, and Aimbotz are now available on Train for our Refrag subscribers. All modes are currently being worked on. Note that to access them, you’ll have to do so through chat command in-game, as the website has not been fully updated yet. To access Train on Refrag servers, type .map train in the in-game chat.
